About Terry Ffyffe written by Denis Taylor, friend of the artist and curator of the exhibition
Terry Ffyffe was an artist who I became a friend of after I chose two of his painting for a major exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden (Heart 2 Art) We became quite close and visited each others studios many times for many years. We talked many times about the contemporary artists conflict with Post Modernism and poor artist practice. He was a painter that had a deep belief in God and the mission of an artist, that was to spread the joy, the passion and the commentary that Art can provide for the global society. On one of my visits in his studio in London, Terry told me of an art ‘Epiphany’ or ‘Weltgeist’, one that he had experienced after many years of painting a whole variety of subject matter.
Terry had left his country of birth to roam the world on a journey of artistic-discovery, his objective was to broaden his understanding of Art and refine his creative desire to create Art that had meaning and depth. He found himself, eventually in London, where he settled down to fine tune his natural ability for painting by studying in detail the work of the Renaissance artists. He achieved some success as an artist and was introduced to the inner circle of Dan Farson (the late renowned art critic) and the painter Francis Bacon. He was encouraged further by winning the sought after ‘Discerning Eye’ award for his paintings “the artist as a fool”. This was a series of paintings that was chosen by the independent art writer Edward Lucie Smith, the Art Review magazine Editor, David lee and a panel of respected art professionals connected, with the then valid, art magazine of quality for painters.
